Dear Brothers, The National Order of the Arrow Conference was held August 2nd through August 6th, 1998, at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. When we got to NOAC on Sunday, we had gotten our schedules, rooms, patches, and wristbands after checking in. That night, everyone went to the Hilton Coliseum for the opening show "Memories." On Monday, everyone went to their training sessions. In the afternoon, Arrowmen had the chance to go to different activities such as:TOAP (The Outdoor Adventure Place), meet the man, NOAC Museum or the trading post. That night, about 30 people received the Distinguished Service Award for OA. Tuesday was about the same. The show on Tuesday was titled "Dances." This is a part of OA that Arrowmen can participate in. There are several different types of dances: Old Style, Straight, Traditional, Grass, and Fancy. Wednesday was also known as "Founder's Day." In the morning they had some activities and training sessions. The afternoon was filled with Founder's Day activities such as: silk screening and volleyball finals. That evening the theme show and Goodman gala took place. During the Goodman gala, there was a fireworks show and a lot of ice cream being eaten. Thursday morning the closing show "Visions" took place. We were able to do other things during the week, like glow bowling, watch a movie and go to almost anything on campus. Time was spent trading patches and meeting people from all over the country (There was over 6,000 youth). There were even some people from Panama at NOAC. There were 12 OA Members for Buffalo Trace Council in attendance.
Yours in Brotherhood,
Drew Schroering
